In the U.S., about 400,000 trucking jobs needed to be filled in just 2011 alone. As huge as the amount may sound, apparently the people who are looking for the job cannot get in and are having a tough time landing on those job posts. There are many factors that could prevent an applicant from getting a truck driving job.
A driver could be overlooked if he or she has been convicted of a felony- In trucking, safety in the primary priority. Most companies are not willing to compromise this by getting somebody that has a major criminal record. Trucking firms need to pay huge amount for insurance, and drivers with a felony record could risk everyone's wellbeing and produce higher premiums.
A driver may be disregarded if he or she has been charged with drugs- Truck driving jobs require truckers to be at their fittest mentally because the work entails long hours of straight driving. Being affected by any drug will certainly disrupt the work itself, and besides, no business would like to endanger their names just because an employee of theirs met an accident due to irresponsibility and drug usage.
Any guilty verdict that is in relation to weapons may also prevent a driver from obtaining a job- Trucking involves big loads of supplies and items that must be delivered from one point to another, and of course, companies would want their truck drivers to be composed at all times. A person who had been found guilty with possessing illegal firearms is most likely going to bring one and then use it to threaten others, which is something that most trucking companies will not risk.
A driver may be skipped over when he or she has been found guilty of driving under influence (DUI) / Driving while intoxicated (DWI) in the last five years or more than twice in his or her whole life - If you were imprisoned as a result of DUI or DWI, then it is much more likely that you would not be hired for a Trucking job. Trucking firms hire people that can drive with no potential risk of an accident during the trip because of alcohol intake.
Somebody who has a record of deserting his or her truck within the last 5 years- As a trucker, the main obligation is to take good care of the truck as well as the cargo. It is an expectation from companies that their supplies will be delivered completely and in proper manner to its intended location as scheduled. They won't risk disturbing that flow by hiring somebody who has a history of abandoning his or her truck at the side of the road.
